Since I'm typing this first sentence at 6 minutes to midnight, it technically counts as a Friday post and there's nothing you can do about it.
So. This week. Let's get to it, no?

1. Watching
Empire. You guys. Guys. LOL. From the way the show has been hyped on/by Twitter , Buzzfeed, the chimera that lives under your bed, and the entire internet at large, it was only a matter of time before your friendly neighbourhood Lazy Bishhh High Priestess was sucked in. Also, gifs. Sooo many gifs.

Having watched the first episode, my summary would read thusly:
"hahahahahahahahha *gasps* ahahahahahaha *is carted away by men in white coats*".

Basically, if La Usurpadora had a baby with Love and Hip Hop: ATL, this would be it and I can't say I hate it. It's ratings gold so far, so opinion withheld pending binge viewing of all episodes involved.

2. Reading

Absolutely nothing. Yo. After the mental and eventually emotional drain "The Forever Watch" pulled on my faculties? Mama needs a breather. The book itself is not bad, but there are some things Ramirez attempts that...well. Suffice it to say I've spent the last few days in the hospital for injuries related to violently rolling my eyes.
There's only so much WTF you can pack into one month. Consider yourself also granted a reading sabbatical until Sunday, March 1st, because all must obey The Queen.
...the Queen is me, there. I was referring to myself.

3. Listening To

Ne-yo. Bruh finally went and decided to drop his next album a literal month ago and I was none the wiser. I know, I am literally the worst long distance girlfriend, but I'm still here for you boo! As I'm still working my way through the tracklist, I cannot as yet proclaim that this is all you need to listen to if you want to achieve immortality (even though it's probably true). I can, however, recommend "Congratulations" which is centered on a theme Ne yo is worryingly into. Alas, i couldn't find it on SoundCloud so the YouTube audio/cover art is below. I think each track has a different woman as the art? To be investigated.

If you're like me, you are partial to slowly rotting out your brain in the most enjoyable fashion yet: reality TV. You also enjoy eating batteries. Everyone does it and it's perfectly natural. However, isn't it just horrifying when you're watching your guilty-pleasure Reality show of choice, cheerfully judging the terrible people participating...then realise you can relate? Yea, totes the wost. In the interest of making lemon-flavoured napalm out of the terrible, terrible lemons I've just been handed, I present to you this post: the five most important lessons I've learnt in the course of my Sunday afternoon forays into the world of reality TV. Observe.

Surprise! No seriously, keep reading. thechroniclesofefrem

.

1. If you're "Just Trying to Help", don't be a dick about it.

In this case, I'm referring to the dynamic between Kim Richards and her sister Kyle Richards-Umanksy of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
If you do watch, you've seen the sisters struggle to rebuild their relationship, often ending in civil exchanges with enough icy undertones to give you frostbite at home. Granted, Kyle is kind of terrible and Kim is kind of waaaay damaged, but in a startling moment of clarity, I understand their deal.

 Sisterly bonding activities. stoopidhousewives

Kim has had struggles with substance abuse and horrifying choices in spouses practically her entire life, which is incredibly unfortunate and I feel for her, I really do. Her younger sister Kyle, who was for the most part the second banana, now has a tight family unit, a husband who loves her (in spite of being a terrible person himself, or is it because?), and an overall kind of great life. Because she's "got her life figured out", Kyle often tries to guide Kim on straightening out her own existence, by way of advice and interventions and such, which on paper sounds great. The final expression, however? Condescension.

To put it in context, say, you were undergoing some romantic struggles that your friend is aware of. Please note that you have NOT asked for their advice, you're merely talking abut what's been going on in your life, just sharing. "That" friend then proceeds to point out how it's your fault the girl you like only dates people with blue hair and basically implies that you know nothing on the matter, hence you should hush and let them tell you how it's done, since they've done it this way and it's worked. What's that? Your opinion? IRRELEVANT. Shut. Up. And. Listen. I know better.

I know better! leftphalange.tumblr.

Yup, that, friends is how "trying to help" goes left in a hurry and ends in festering resentment that slowly dissolves the fabric of your friendship and ends with a closed-casket funeral for one of you, and a platinum lifetime membership to one of our fine correctional institutions for the other.

My point? Giving advice is a collaborative effort: you suggest your solution, seek my opinion on it and respect my choice if I decide it wouldn't work for me. HOW HARD CAN THAT BE, PEOPLE?

 Surely easier than this. community.babycenter

3. Get your Hustle right

For this lesson, I invite you to join me on the set of Love and Hip Hop New York. Y'know, the one that had us wondering what people saw in Jim Jones and now has us looking for therapists for Joe Budden? Yea. Not the Atlanta one, although that has its own unique lessons.

Lesson One: Sippin' on that sizzurp, like a lady. love-n-hiphop.tumblr

Our instructor on this is one Miss Yandy Smith, currently engaged to an alleged heroin trafficking, ex and possible future con (#FreeMendeeceesHarris), all of which is to be ignored for the sake of getting this vital teaching down: ladies, Get. On. Your. Grind.

Stand down, Team Mafisi. love-n-hiphop.tumblr

I find there is never really an excuse for being complacent with the concept of asking Daddy or your boyfriend for money, in my sanctimonious opinion. Where conventional employment is not an option, the onus is upon you to find your inner Miss Independent and get paid.

At this, Yandy is an absolute guru. From talent management, to a lifestyle brand, to contributing author for a huge to a jewellery line, Yandy Smith has her hand in a little bit of everything and it pays off big time: her house is fully paid for people!

 Get yours. iddavanmunster

I could sit here and wax poetic about the importance of finding a mentor in your lane as illustrated by Yandy and the value of having a cheery personality, but the next point urgently needs saying. Ready?

4. If you're going to go flying off a table to smack a bitch, look fabulous doing it.

This also applies to throwing wine bottle WMDs and rearranging former best-friends faces with your fabulous clutch purse during birthday dinners.

5. Keep Your Words Sweet, You May have to eat them.

As I learned from this fine lady, there are 265 days in a year and I spend all of them being thankful for Mrs Porsha Stewart. Well, soon to be ex Mrs Stewart.
Aside from being one of the most quotable characters  on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, Porsha starts off the show being the girl with the civil rights background, a loving husband and never having worked a day in her life.

  Yes Ma'am. realitytvgifs.tumblr

Enter one of the most entertainingly unbalanced characters on TV yet, Kenya Moore. Granted, Kenya gets her cheques and is to be applauded for that, but her personal life is just...I mean, good heavens. Porsha is the first of the ladies to put on her Regina George stilettos and tear Kenya asunder, focusing on her...advanced age and state of unmarriedness. Also, the fact that she's kind of crazy.

No caption necessary. thisisnewstome

Catty, right? Since karma is a thing, we slowly see cracks in Porsha's relationship (mainly that she's married to a talking thumb. I can say that, because Kordell is a jerk.) that culminate in a messy divorce that is playing out in the tabloids as we speak.
Yikes. My point? Porsha's "pichur purfek life" imploded in the most horrid way possible, leaving her to deal with the very issue she stigmatized Kenya for the entire season: being painfully single. Lesson? Unless you're an icecream-powered psychic, it is unwise to rib on other people, worst of all about a situation in life that's both beyond their control and veeery easy for you to slide into yourself. Be cool, man.

 Yes, boo, YOU. whatisthisbushweek.tumblr

Got that, everyone? Good, goooooood. I hope we've all learned valuable lessons from these brave, terrible people who entertain us every week/whenever we get the complete season DVD.
And now, since I'm sure you could name all of the characters presenting our life lessons, I present you with your Reality TV Diploma:

The interpretive dance version. whatisthisbushweek.tumblr

Stay fabulous everyone, and have a rocking July. OR ELSE.

Salam, my lovely ladies and gents. That would be hello in Azerbaijan, which I just now learned is a country. It's been a week of sleep deprivation and exhaustion for me, possibly for you as well, so I shall do us both a favour and drop an inspiration post right here.

Feeling pumped already. swiss-lifestyler

Start untangling your earphones now, folks, I'm about to go audio up in this mother! Today's focus is... drum-roll please, Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover or Troy Barnes from hit TV comedy series, Community. Now before we go any further, allow me to segue into these actors who can actually pass for teenagers on the street while being in their 30's or frigging 40's.

Sorcerers!

I found that pic on the internet and totally didn't alter it AT ALL so it must be true. Indirect online proposals of marriage aside, Donald Glover has been selected as a point of inspiration for obvious reasons: beloved actor (seriously, Troy is the best), writer for one of the greatest shows of our time, (30 Rock!!) producer of musical genius, comedian and most flownominal rapper, Glover's diverse range of skills and creative outlets speaks to me on a personal level.

seriously, Troy is the best. ordinaryperson

For me, the wide, wide range of talents possessed by the Donald the Great is not just impressive (and it really is), it makes it ok to be good at a bunch of things and not feel pressured to find your "one true calling" or "The One" thing you're good at doing.

Double entendre for the wiiiin. wallsave

It can be argued that Donald's ultimate goal is to entertain, but by being blessed with so many avenues to do this, the skill is diversified and therefore made unique. To me, Donald is awesome because across all these routes, he stays REAL. Observe:

I used to get called "oreo" and "f*****"
I used to get more laughs when i got laughed at
Oh you got a mixtape? That’s fantastic
But everybody thought it was jokes though
They half right, the joke is
I got flow so don't act like
You ain't sittin' there with your friends like, it can't be
i know Donald Glover, he weak man, he can't be
I’m still knocked down, but i up the ante
Me and hip-hop, that black Sid and Nancy
-From "Firefly" by Childish Gambino

Donald speaks very candidly about being bullied and hassled because he didn't fit in the stereotypical racial box he was meant to, as well as choosing to pursue a goal that seems unattainable. Don? Donny? Sweetie? See below:

It's ok now, I'm here. serfsurviving

I can completely get behind his philosophy on creating content:

All i do is make the stuff I wanna write
Reference shows I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
-From "Firefly" by Childish Gambino

On being on his grind from 2002 and staying motivated:

I have worked all winter, I will not fail summer
-From "Freaks and Geeks" by Childish Gambino

On the true definition of swag:

You get sloppy drunk, I stay whiskey neat
-From "Freaks and Geeks" by Childish Gambino

me on whisky neat. funchilly

Donald. D-money. Dondizzle, stay awesome. Seriously, you're the best.

The best. Seriously. khanversations

This has been an Inspiration Experience from your mystic Inspiration Butterfly guide, Master Eveia.

-Disregard the detractors: have a thick skin and find humour in the darkest bits of your life
-Be good at everything you're good at
-The crab-slide-lewd-gesture entrance is the ONLY entrance.

The only one. And blog post conclusion. youaresuperfantastic

UPDATE: Drop whatever you're doing and go read/watch Because the Internet right immediately now.

I'm 93% sure that there is no need for me to have a lengthy introduction to the phenomenon that is the TV series The Vampire Diaries,  which is good, since I had no plans of trying to explain anything that happens on there.

this was a thing that happened with magic swords. Price Peterson

While there are a number of characters on the show that I ADORE and want to have little vampwolf puppy-babies with, this is not about them.

regardless of how gorgeous the babies would be. imgfave

No, friends, this will be about one of the most underrated characters on the show, the witch Bonnie Bennet.

I'm fabulous. nowhitenoise

Specifically, the incredible actress who plays Bonnie (who's terrible apart from season 4, you go girl), Miss Kat Graham.

If you clicked on the link above, you should already see some of why I think Kat is amazing: apart from speaking Spanish, Hebrew, French and Portuguese, *jaw drops* Ms Graham has also been in the biz for quite a while, starting out in commercials aged 6. What were you doing when you were 6?

Admirable child star trajectory aside, reading through Kat's body of work makes one thing abundantly clear: regardless of what else she was involved in between 1995 and now, the one that's stayed the same is her drive to pursue a musical career. With random gigs tangentially related to the music industry as well as acting roles to help drive up her exposure and find industry connections, Kat has stayed true to her course and has finally made it.

Finally signing a recording contract with major label A&M Octone Records in 2012, Kat dropped her (first official?) single, Put Your Graffiti On Me, which you can listen to on Grooveshark at that link. On a related note, don't you just get so worked up when you're trying to find a song on Soundcloud and EVERY search result is a cover or remix??

My point here is that Kat persevered, writing music, background dancing and fabulously defying the laws of fashion until her dream worked out, fabulously.

Still fabulous. katgraham

The video for her epic track "Wanna Say" can be found on YouTube and is definitely worth checking out, if not for the super catchy beats, then for the fierce fashion moments that will CHANGE. YOUR. LIFE. Observe:

Sheer Awesomenes in volumes that mere mortals can barely comprehend, which is to be expected by default from the lady that gave us this ensemble:

More fabulous than you. haryanaabtak

There you have it: Ms (soon to be Mrs by the by) Katerina Alexandre Graham has taught us all how to get it: go after what you want, even if you have to do a few things in the meantime that have no relation to your passion, every experience is a lesson. Fashion inspiration and pursuer of success, we salute you.

For anyone out there that's not familiar with Adventure Time with Finn and Jake, this is one show that you simply MUST watch this month: with a diverse range of funny, yet well written characters and a wealth of catchphrases you'll want to plug in to everyday life, it's no wonder that Adventure Time has such an insanely impressive cult following.

via The Cosplay Gods who you should totally check out, they're amazing.

And then there's those that are serious about this life.

'cause no one rocks pink like Princess Bubblegum. liveforfilms

My focus is on Marceline the Vampire Queen. Rocker chick, Vampire royalty and all around badass, Marcie is the epitome of vampire chic for this generation (stand aside Swan). With a variety of looks under her belt (see what I did there?) Marceline's look is one I was eager to try out for myself.

My compliments to the writers of this ridiculously hilarious show; seriously, EVERYONE is likeable, even the characters meant to be annoying. Except Tree Trunks. No. Just. No.

Me when Tree Trunks is on. Also, me in the morning. adventuretime.wikia

This super awesome Polyvore user has put together a handy dandy guide to achieving the look above (and a few others that I will hopefully feature here later) which is so cool, I'm in physical pain just looking at it.

pic via baptisms

Awesome, right? While I do love the look, the red boots were a bit out of my comfort zone (when else am I ever going to wear them?) so I swapped them out for red sneakers. I'll post the final pic of the complete outfit (plus some accessory amendments to help it pop a bit and make it more "mine") a little later: I'm a few days away from acquiring a most excellent camera hence I thought it wise not to burden y'all with the grainy version.
Good things come to those that wait, right?

Th-th-th-that's all folks! ...for now.

Ladies and gents, boys and girls, children of all ages (actually, if you're under 18 you probably shouldn't read this entry), welcome to my inaugural "Things that Make Me Tick" post.
We of limited attention spans and tendencies to procrastinate have usually exhausted our Sunday night gung ho by around Wednesday: this post will be all about replenishing the enthusiasm reservoirs to push through the week.

if you could just put the food directly in my mouth... mccmelbourne

This week, my focus, as you've doubtless inferred at this point (good on you Sherlock) is about Dan Humphrey, a character from a guilty pleasure series I shame-watched: Gossip Girl. Yes, I know, terrible way to spend my day, but what can I say, I was hooked. You know what that's like, right? (Legally Blonde fans, I'm looking at you).

lovely pic via seveninchstilettos

While there are several, truly disturbed characters from whom to draw inspiration, I find that Dan Humphrey resonates the most with me: a writer, who not only used his writing to express himself (and become fabulously wealthy because duh) but leveraged it to get the girl he was in love with for...how many years was it from season 1? Let me know in the comments. The similarly disturbed girl of his dreams.

seriously, everyone on this show was nuts. ggmemes.tumblr

Dan, born of a washed up rock star and...a Mom who is never explained, is a Brooklinite, which in this fabulous world of inappropriately high heels and underage substance abuse, made him a peasant. Dan spots the aforementioned Peyton Sawyer for the 2000's and is instantly smitten.
Knowing he has no hope of attaining her affections, he creates a blog titled "Gossip Girl", dedicated to exposing the secrets of the students at their super exclusive private school, and in a twist of genius, uses it to write himself into Serena's (that's the girl) life. Using the blog to report happenings at the school and generally stalk everyone, he effectively weaves himself into the narrative, securing her attention and eventually integrating himself into her world.

seriously, writers... ggmemes.tumblr

Since anonymity is key, he has to spend the entire run of the show pretending to be clueless, even...being shocked by posts in the privacy of his own home. Yes, that happens, severally. Ignoring the obvious problems with this set up and drawing to my point: Dan used writing to get everything he ever wanted in life, a goal which your friendly neighbourhood blogger here can relate to and be inspired by.

Michael Collado's photo-recaps of this show are a delight.

The lesson here: your talents can get you where you want to be, with hard work, persistence...and a blossoming psychosis that is allowed to run unchecked. So...inspired yet?

wisdom via Michael Collado

NB: Naturally, because the internet is a thing, the revelation of Dan Humphrey as the ubiquitous Gossip Girl that haunted our consciousness spawned lovely tribute memes, with Dan Humphrey being every character yet to be unmasked in pop culture history.

Again, if you're under 18, scroll no further, the image that follows will shatter your world and leave you a weeping mess: the truth is not for everyone.

you thought I was joking, didn't you. ggmemes.tumblr

In conclusion, I urge you to listen to the voices (you know which ones) and use what was bestowed upon you to get what your heart desires. Also, a truth bomb:

spoiler alert!

A quick word to all you fabulously emotionally unstable gents out there: I do not advocate stalking of this level. Seriously, if she doesn't know you exist either say hello or let go. Stop scrolling her Facebook page on the next tab: that is not a good look.
Have a great The Rest of The Week, Folks, this Blogger Babe is out!
